[Limited to three] 2024 New Year Camera Strap

This camera strap combines the Dragon 2024's zodiac sign, with Mount Fuji and pine trees, which are very auspicious in Japan.

In Shizuoka Prefecture, there is a shore called三保松原/Miho no Matsubara, famous for its pine trees in plumage, from which you can view the beautiful Mt. Fuji. The scenery has long been depicted in Ukiyoe woodblock prints, including the renowned "Fuji 36 Views of Suruga Mihonomatsubara" by Hiroshige Utagawa.
I made this strap with the image of Miho no Matsubara, which Jay and I have visited many times with our lovely dog.

The narrative unfolds through the picturesque view of snow-clad Mt. Fuji from the pinery of Miho coast. Upon closer inspection, the intricacies of the braid reveal a symbolic representation: the green represents the pine grove, white signifies the snow-covered Mt. Fuji, and ripples evoke the ocean with a touch of sky blue reflecting the beautiful blue sky. Two shades of brown represent pine cones, trunks, and branches, creating a vivid scene. The reverse side is uniformly brown.

This is a method of braiding called 竜甲/Dragon's scale.
As the name implies, this cord has a pattern of dragon scales floating on it.

This braiding technique was favored by samurai during the Edo period and traditionally used as the下緒/sageo for Japanese swords. To enhance practicality as a camera strap, I have made it thicker than the typical sageo, ensuring ease of use while retaining its historical charm.

Because the two cords are braided together, it takes twice as long to braid as a regular one-cord strap.

My strap is made using the technique of traditional Japanese craft, "Kumihimo".
I'm braiding everything by myself.
